After the success of the Fallout show, it looks like Amazon Prime has its sights on another video game franchise. Amazon Prime has ordered a new series that's going to be based on the iconic Tomb Raider series. This is made possible through an agreement between Amazon MGM Studios and Crystal Dynamics.
There's not much we know yet about this upcoming series except that it's going to be written, as well as produced, by Phoebe Waller-Bridge. She's known for films like Goodbye Christopher Robin and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. Her TV credits include Broadchurch, Killing Eve, and Fleabag. In addition to acting, she also serves as a writer that includes shows like Fleabag and No Time to Die.
The announcement of a new show comes at the heels of an announcement previously made Crystal Dynamics and Amazon Games that they entered into a partnership for the release of a new multiplatform Tomb Raider video game. While there's no official title yet, it's going to offer a single-player and narrative-driven adventure. It's going to add a new chapter in the story of Lara Croft.
In a statement, Amazon Games VP Christoph Hartmann that the lore of the Tomb Raider franchise allows for the show on Prime Video and the video game from Amazon Games to separate stories about the adventures of Lara Croft. He added that they're honored to have been given the trust by Crystal Dynamics.
By the way, the upcoming show is not to be confused with an animated show that's also based on the Tomb Raider series and coming out this year.
Experience the Adventure
While waiting for updates on this upcoming show, Amazon Prime members on the PC can claim their copy of Tomb Raider: Game of the Year Edition. It's available via GOG throughout May.
This version puts the focus on the rather intense and gritty original story of Lara Croft. We get to see her turn from a young woman to someone who's a hardened survivor. In her quest to learn more about the dark history of a forgotten island, she'll need to push beyond the limits of human endurance, especially if she wants to escape its relentless hold.
