Amazon Fire Stick warning as illegal streaming could damage device or wipe data

The Amazon Fire Stick is very popular with Irish households with many using it to regularly watch popular streaming services such as Prime and Disney Plus.

But it is often also used by some to illegally stream content such as movies and television shows. Now an important warning has been issued about the potential to damage your stick or lose data.

Unofficial apps are often used to illegally stream content and they can lead to issues due to a lack of security. When users attempt to download them recently there's a warning popping up about what could potentially happen.

It says: "WARNING: When you use applications from unknown sources, your TV and personal data are less secure and there is a risk of unexpected behaviour. You agree that you are solely responsible for any damage to your device or loss of data that may result from using these applications."

Although the warning appears it does not appear that Amazon are removing such apps from the platform. But AFTNews is warning users that it could lead to malware entering the system and stealing data or children getting easy access to adult content.

Recent research has found that 50 top illegal streaming websites contain some form of malware. On top of that 40% were found to have no security certificate.
