It's one of city's most essential and recognisable landmarks, but now the entire history of Edinburgh's North Bridge can be witnessed in the time it takes to drink a cup of tea.
A new video has been created that charts the ever-changing face of the North Bridge, from its inception in the 18th century, through to its replacement in the 1890s and beyond.

The fascinating animation, which is available on YouTube, is brimming with historical pictures of the city's landmark North Bridge - some of them from long before even Waverley Station was built.
It may be hard to remember the beautiful blue bridge that links the Old Town with the New Town just now, since it's been hidden under scaffolding for years, while it receives a much-needed face lift.
However, in the clip you not only catch a glimpse of the iconic bridge as it looked over the course of the last century, but all the way back to the 1890s.
Winding back further, we also get to see the original stone bridge that preceded the current structure and even how the area looked before there was a bridge there at all.
Now one skilful YouTuber has tracked those fascinating changes in an amazing new video, Edinburgh North Bridge Through Time (2021-1690 Animated Timeline) , which was published to the platform last week.
Running in reverse from the modern day, the four minute clip stitches together transitions of a number of photographs, engravings and historic illustrations to tell the story of the bridge that has well and truly stood the test of time.
One image melts into another in this animated trip down through history, that shows how North Bridge and its surroundings have developed over the past few hundred years.
Winding back the decades, we can visualise the bumpy ride the bridge has endured, from the first stone that was laid in 1763 to the iron-built bridge we know today that is currently being brought back to its former glory.
The original North Bridge was built in 1772, but its opening was delayed when it partially collapsed, killing five men.
The crossing we know today replaced the original in the 1890s and has been conveying traffic across the Waverley valley ever since.
As well as showing the evolution of the North Bridge, the video winds back to the earliest days of Waverley Station, which was first laid out in the 1840s on what was once the eastern fringes of the old Nor' Loch.
