Amanda Bynes on psychiatric hold after being found roaming streets naked and calling 911

Actress Amanda Bynes has been placed on a 72-hour psychiatric hold. The former teen star was found wandering round the streets of downtown Los Angeles early on Sunday morning with no clothes on, according to reports.

The 36-year-old is said to have flagged down a car that was driving by as she told the person behind the wheel that she was "coming down from a psychotic episode".

She is then reported to have called 911 and after being taken to a police station, it was decided by mental health professionals that she would be placed on a 5150 psychiatric hold, which is described as a legal action from the CA Welfare and Institutions Code which allows a qualified officer to confine someone against their will for 72 hours, though this can be extended.

A source told TMZ the All That star hasn't been in contact with her family "for some time" and her longtime attorney said she wasn't in a position to comment on the reports, according to CBS. The source added that the actress wasn't hurt in the incident.

Bynes had been scheduled to appear at a 90s Con event at the weekend but had dropped out shortly before with the convention's production company, That’s4Entertainment, telling followers on Instagram she was suffering from an "undisclosed" illness.

Kel Mitchell, who starred alongside Amanda in All That, asked fans to "send a prayer" to the Hairspray star.

Amanda didn't address the reason for her cancellation, but had previously revealed she was "really excited to reunite" with her cast mates. 90s Con would have been her first public appearance since her eight-year conservatorship ended in March 2022.

She is said to be receiving treatment in hospital following the incident. Amanda's representatives have been contacted for comment.
