Alva man had knife during fight at Hillfoots property

An Alva man was last week sentenced to 300 hours’ unpaid work for fighting with a man while he had a knife.

David Law, of Greenhead, had admitted charges, on indictment, of uttering threats of violence while in possession of the weapon and engaging in a fight with the man at an address in Carseview, Tullibody, as well as possessing the knife, both on May 12, 2019.

The 32-year-old’s not guilty plea to a charge of assaulting the man to his injury – brandishing a knife and an axe at the man, threatening him with violence, repeatedly punching him on the head and body as well as striking him on the head with a bladed implement - was accepted by the Crown.

A not guilty plea to a further assault to injury charge - stating that he had also bit the man on the head as well as engaged in a fight with him - was also accepted along with a charge of possessing an axe.

At Stirling Sheriff Court last week Sheriff Keith O’Mahony sentenced Law to a community payback order comprising 300 hours’ unpaid work - to be completed within 12 months - as a direct alternative to custody.
