An Altoona man who frequents the McDonald’s where Luigi Mangione was arrested on Monday shared his account of the events leading up to the arrest. The man, identified as Larry, arrived at the McDonald’s around 6 a.m. ET on Monday and noticed Mangione entering the restaurant at approximately 8 a.m. ET.
Larry mentioned that initially, they thought it was a joke when one of his friends pointed out that Mangione resembled the suspected shooter. Despite this, Mangione stayed in the restaurant for a considerable amount of time, even though he may have overheard their conversation.
While Larry did not pay much attention to Mangione, he observed that Mangione was seated about 10 feet away from him towards the back of the restaurant. Larry's friend provided more details, mentioning that Mangione was wearing a mask, a hood, and carrying a backpack.
Although Larry left before the arrest occurred, he returned to the McDonald’s after hearing the news. He spoke to some employees who claimed to recognize Mangione. One worker mentioned that she identified him based on his eyes and eyebrows.
According to Larry, after placing his order, Mangione remained seated at the back of the restaurant. Larry walked past him as he was leaving, expressing his disbelief at the situation, stating, 'It’s unbelievable. I still can’t hardly believe it’s for real, ya know?'
