Alternative music festival in Newcastle to launch with Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes

Punk rockers Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes will be headlining a new festival in Newcastle later this year.

Risefest, described as a festival made by music lovers for music lovers, is being launched by the team behind alternative music club night Rise and will be upping the ante in the city this autumn with a playlist over two stages in Northumbria University Students Union.

Founders Richard Thompson, Christopher Davidson and Ashley Horne will be building upon the fan base they have attracted since the start of the Rise club night in 2016, which is aimed at offering a haven for music fans who feel lost within the mainstream music circuit.

The festival, which will take place on September 10 and have a capacity for 2,000 people, will set the scene with a mix of genres and Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes - bringing their own brand of punk-hardcore indie and alternative rock - are the first of the line-up to be announced.

Christopher Davidson of their idea for the new festival said: “The live music world is an incredibly tough nut to crack and we've had to work very hard to put ourselves in a position to do this.

"We didn't want to just team up with a big promoter and simply hand them the reins with our name on - we like to have control over the products we put our name onto."

He added: "The mantra we tend to live by comes from a classic Fleetwood Mac track Go Your Own Way’”.

The organisers' commitment to community also will be reflected in the food vendors picked for the event, which will include local independent businesses, and in offering a platform for grassroots talent.

Tickets for the festival will go on sale on Monday, February 28 at 10am. See here.
