Almost 100,000 people are waiting for treatment at Newcastle' s hospitals - and national NHS waiting lists have now passed 6.2m people.
In the aftermath of the Covid-19 crisis, waiting lists have rocketed and hospital bosses around the country are working at speed to improve a worrying picture. However, as of February, the number of patients to have waited more than a year has fallen across the North East.
The Newcastle Hospitals NHS Trust, which runs sites including the Freeman and the RVI, faces the eighth longest waiting list in the country - reflecting that it is one of the biggest NHS trusts nationwide. There are are total of 97,260 people waiting for treatment across a range of specialities in Newcastle, and 3,720 have waited more than a year. Almost 200 people had waited more than two - but the trust said this has fallen in recent weeks since the data was collected.
