Ally McCoist tips Rangers to shelve Simply the Best as Chris Sutton revels in 'worst ever' tag

Ally McCoist says that Rangers might be putting away their Tina Turner anthem for the time begin amid their calamitous Champions League campaign.

Celtic hero Chris Sutton was in a playful mood with the Ibrox legend after the Light Blues crashed out of Europe's top table as the 'worst-team' to have ever competed in the competition's group stage. They lost all six of their Group A games with a goal difference of -20 after scoring just twice to the sobering 22 times they conceded.

Sutton was keen to point out to his Scottish Football Extra pal on BT Sport that Rangers might ditch the song 'Simply The Best" that is played at every home game going forward this season. While not getting reeled in, McCoist replied with a reminder that his beloved side have earned more coefficient points than Celtic this term. They drew two of their Group F games, losing the other four as their rivals picked up wins in qualification.

He stated: "Well, I would think they would give that song in particular a couple of weeks rest.

"There is no way shape or form I'll be taking any solace from Rangers flying the flag in terms of the coefficient for Scottish teams. It's been a very poor campaign."

That's a defence that former Parkhead striker Sutton was in no mood to take onboard: "Worst ever team and he is taking solace in the coefficient cup! You couldn't make McCoist up."
