Ally McCoist slaughters Rangers striker Fashion Sakala for Queen of the South horror moment

Ally McCoist has slaughtered Fashion Sakala over the error that led to Lee Connelly's wonder goal for Queen of the South at Ibrox.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst shuffled his pack for the Premier Sports Cup clash with the Zambian handed the chance to impress the Dutchman with some huge games on the horizon, including the Old Firm clash with Celtic this weekend and the start of the Light Blues' Champions League campaign.

Robbie Ure was handed his top team debut and made an instant impact as he opened the scoring in front of the home fans inside the opening 10 minutes. However, Willie Gibson's League One outfit weren't behind for long with Sakala's role in the goal hammered by Rangers hero McCoist, who was on duty for the live Premier Sports showdown. Scott Arfield netted a double to make sure of safe passage to the quarter-final stage with the big draw coming after Celtic's trip to Ross County later tonight.

Giving his thoughts on the stunning Queen of the South leveller at half-time, McCoist said: “It’s absolutely shocking from [Fashion] Sakala, it’s a complete lapse in concentration, but take nothing away from the finish.

“It’s sublime by [Lee] Connelly who leaves Allan McGregor with no chance. It was a different class finish.”

On his squad changes for the cup win, Van Bronckhorst said: “We changed a lot of players today and it was good to have a new eleven getting minutes. I am very happy with that, the most important thing is the next round. We gave positive debuts to some academy players. They have to keep working hard to play more games.
