Ally McCoist rumbled as Rangers icon's second team claim backfires after drawing 'world champions' blank

Rangers icon Ally McCoist could see the funny side after he was caught on the hop amid a fiery debate surrounding Arsenal and Tottenham.

Breakfast host Laura Woods and Jamie O'Hara were going back and forth over whether the Gunners were living up to expectations amid their push for a top four finish in the Premier League.

Mischievous McCoist couldn't resist fanning the flames as he claimed his love for Chelsea left him unimpressed with the ongoing back and forth.

Speaking talkSPORT, he said: "I've been Chelsea ever since we played them, the late 70s, sorry, early 80s, aye, oh yeah, I have.

"We played them at the Bridge, I stick by my team, the two of you seem to be ganging up one me because we're world champions, European champions.

"You two get back in your place, have a wee conversation about fourth place, the two of you, when you want to talk to the world champion, just come over here and I will give you my views."

But sparring partner Woods was in the mood to test McCoist's knowledge of the Londoners and asked him who Thomas Tuchel's side defeated to lift the FIFA World Club Cup earlier this year.

And that's when the giggling 59-year-old knew the game was up.

A giggling McCoist quickly admitted: "I cannae even remember."

The Rangers hero has long been admirer of the Blues but was willing to play up his dedication to Chelsea in the name of early morning hijinks.

But, for once, he missed the target.
