Rangers icon Ally McCoist believes international management may be the wrong route for Steven Gerrard amid interest from Poland.
The 42-year-old has been out of work since October after Aston Villa wielded the axe amid a rotten run of results and fan ire in the wake of a trouncing at the hands of Fulham. Gerrard headed for the Premier League side after three-and-a-half years in the Ibrox hotseat. He secured the Scottish Premiership title in his final full season in Glasgow and led Rangers to consecutive trips to the last 16 of the Europa League.
And Poland are have honed in the Liverpool legend and believe he is the man to lead Robert Lewandowski's final run with the national team. But McCoist reckons Gerrard should continue in club football for now and pointed to Scott Parker's recent appointment as the type of role which should be on his radar.
When asked on talkSPORT if international football was the right next, McCoist said: "No, I don't think so. Scott Parker just went to Brugge, didn't he? I said when Frank Lampard left Chelsea that I wouldn't have minded if he had gone to a European club. I think Steven could do the same somewhere in Europe.
"I don't know if this is an ageist thing to say but I think he is too young to do an international job. I know Roberto Martinez did it and now he's away to Portugal, he's relatively young. I just think Steven would want to get back into the day to day."
