Ally McCoist admits the scenes after Wrexham won the National League had him cheesing...and it brought back memories of some "riotous" parties at Rangers.
Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenny led Wrexham back to the English Football League after a seven-year absence and the pitch invasion after their win over Boreham Wood, which sealed the title, commenced a wild night of celebration in north-east Wales. Deadpool star Reynolds splashed out on some pricey whiskey for fans and players and McCoist said the Rangers players never quite got that treatment from the Ibrox board.
But that didn't stop them partying. McCoist won ten league titles with Gers and he remembers one night that saw he and 'The Goalie' Andy Goram sitting in his back garden until sunrise living it up. A smiling McCoist said on talkSPORT: "I don't know about the expensive bottles of whiskey but we used to go back to Thornton Street back at the stadium and we had a riot, man. Those parties were sensational!
"When I look back and think about some of the nights we had after we won the league...Me and the Goalie, God rest him, we ended up at the bottom of my back garden at about 6 in the morning, just sitting drinking champagne after we won the league.
"Happy days. When I was looking at the Wrexham boys and the scenes, you've got to love it. It brought back loads of memories, it was terrific. There's nothing better than seeing people enjoy themselves is there?"
