Ally McCoist praises Jesse Marsch after Leeds United Premier League survival

Jesse Marsch earned the praise of former Rangers striker and TalkSport pundit Ally McCoist, after the American guided Leeds United to Premier League safety on the final day of the season. The Whites needed to better Burnley's result against Newcastle on Sunday and they managed that as Leeds beat Brentford 2-1 at the Brentford Community Stadium, whilst Burnley fell to a 2-1 home defeat to the Magpies.

McCoist praised Marsch for his positivity, as well as stating that the Leeds manager had answered the 'question marks' over him by delivering on his objective of maintaining the club's Premier League status when he was brought in to replace Marcelo Bielsa.

The Scotsman told the Sports Breakfast: "He's as positive a manager as you get in the top flight just now and it looks as if the players have bought into [what he's trying to do]. There were question marks, obviously, when Bielsa left. Marsch coming in, could he keep them in the division and that was his remit straight away, immediately and he did it. He's come up with the goods.

"It'll be interesting to see what happens to Leeds coming into the window as well, in the summer. I definitely think they'll have to freshen things up a bit with the squad. They had a horrendous season in terms of injuries. It just kind of culminated in Stuart Dallas' really bad injury. They missed, as I say, key players throughout the season, as did a lot of clubs. With Leeds United, it was the spine, with Bamford, Cooper Phillips and boys like that. I think they'll reinvest in the squad and they'll be ready to go for the start of next season."

The club are already moving on improving the squad ahead of their third season in the division. A deal has reportedly been agreed with RB Salzburg for USA international forward Brenden Aaronson to become their first signing of the summer.
