Ally McCoist offers Rangers Champions League cautionary note as he reveals 'bite your hand off' Ajax score dream

Reserved Ally McCoist admits Rangers face a biggest test against Ajax than their entire run to the Europa League final as they prepare to return to the Champions League group stage.

Gio van Bronckhorst led the Ibrox side all the way to Seville last term as they saw off European powerhouses including Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig on route to the showpiece final. The Dutchman will have to put all of those heroics behind him as he looks to make an impact on Europe's elite this term with a trip to Amsterdam to face Dutch champions Ajax first on the agenda.

Ahead of kick-off at the Johan Cruyff Arena, Rangers hero McCoist confessed that The Light Blues may have to deal with a major step up in quality from last season. He stated that if he was offered a point against Alfred Schreuder's men on Rangers' group stage after 12 years he would take it.

McCoist told the talkSPORT Breakfast Show: "It's massive, it's the biggest test. I mean, last year was superb.

"It's an absolutely superb achievement to reach the Europa League final, and they beat some real quality along the way. Obviously the likes of Dortmund and Leipzig.

"This is a real step up in quality again. It's a step up to the Champions League, there is no doubt about it.

"We have talked about Liverpool taking a draw (against Napoli). I would bite your hand off for a draw right now."
