Ally McCoist in heated on-air row with Jamie O'Hara as he blasts Man Utd stars

Ally Mccoist has hit out at Jamie O'Hara for his comments about Ralf Rangnick never getting Manchester United's "players on board in the first place" as interim manager.

Rangnick took over from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last December to oversee the remainder of the season, which led United to finish the campaign with the lowest total of points ever. While many have pointed the finger at the players' performances this season, O'Hara believes Rangnick was at fault for an unsuccessful time at Old Trafford, failing to get players to believe his "philosophy."

He said on talkSPORT: "Look at [Antonio] Conte at Tottenham. He demands more of the players, he's ruthless. You've got to believe in your manager, you can come in and be strong and say do it this way or the high way.

"You think Pep [Guardiola] and [Jurgen] Klopp, I've seen them go mad on the sidelines with their players sometimes. There's a way of doing it of course, but it's changed a little bit but you've got to have the belief and have the players on side, they've got to believe in your philosophy.

"People believe in Conte's philosophy and he's strong and he's hard with the players and you're on board with it. Ralf [Rangnick], he never got the players on board in the first place, they saw right through him, they saw that he was imposter.

"Are you telling me you've got players like [Cristiano] Ronaldo, [Edison] Cavani, [Raphael] Varane, you're telling me these are bad players who can't finish in the top-four? They saw through the manager, they're down tools and they realised this season has been an absolute joke.

Mccoist, on the other hand, strongly disagreed with O'Hara, replying: "Listen to what you've just said there Jamie. They saw the manager so they're downed tools. No Jamie, I don't care, I'm not having it. Where's their personal pride? There's been managers I played under I didn't particularly fancy but I didn't down tools. What's that about? It shouldn't happen."

"Of course it shouldn't happen but it happens, players see through managers," O'Hare added. "They see through philosophies and they go I'm not having this and it doesn't work, they lose the dressing room and that's where the manager gets the sack. The problem was he was an interim manager so there was no point sacking him, just wait until the end of the season. So in the end, it doesn't just become a joke."

The former Spurs man, insisted that the United board should have gone for Antonio Conte as a replacement to Solskjaer. "They made the wrong decision at the start," O'Hara continued. "They had a great manager that they should have got in Conte but they were weak and narrow minded that people in Manchester thinking that he wasn't right for the football club.

"Conte would have guaranteed them top-four, would have given them a trophy. Tottenham, look where they've gone and that group of players at Tottenham aren't nowhere near as good as the players Manchester United have got."
