Ally McCoist in Celtic confession as Rangers icon reveals anticipation to soak up 'genius' Jota and Co

Rangers icon Ally McCoist has raved about Celtic hero Jota after the "genius" Parkhead star downed Aberdeen with an early goal of the season contender.

The 59-year-old football nut enjoyed a weekend packed with live action and admitted he was keen to take in Ange Postecoglou's champions on flag day at Celtic Park. And McCoist admits he was impressed by the football served up as Aberdeen were unable to halt Celtic on the opening day.

McCoist was also impressed by Rangers' rousing comeback on Saturday as Scott Arfield and James Tavernier struck to sink David Martindale's dogged Livingston side at the Tony Macaroni Arena. But he reserved his loftiest praise for Celtic and their £6m Portuguese winger.

Speaking to talkSPORT, he said: "Brilliant, he ( Jota ) is a player. I watched the Rangers game on Saturday, football's amazing, it really is. Livingston score after about five minutes, defensively it's a poor goal from Rangers and then they totally dominate. They get a goal that was probably just onside. They hit the post, they hit the bar, you're thinking it's going to be one of these days.

"But they score two goals in three minutes and they win the game, which they should do. I was looking forward to watching Celtic yesterday, and I did, I enjoyed them, I must admit. Jota, you and I talk about him all the time, he's a genius."
