Ally McCoist has lauded Scott Brown for his "refereeing" performance during Aberdeen's draw with Rangers.
The Ibrox legend stuck his tongue firmly in cheek to claim the wily Dons skipper had "conned his uncle Kevin Clancy" into sending off Ryan Kent during Monday's Premiership clash at Pittodrie.
Rangers have since written to the SFA raising eight points of concern with Clancy's performance.
McCoist joined sparring partner Chris Sutton and host Darrell Currie to review the controversy on BT Sport's Scottish Football Extra on Friday.
He conceded Gio van Bronckhorst's side were well below par and that the inspired Dons probably deserved more than a point, but couldn't resist at dig at former Celtic captain Brown and under-fire ref Clancy.
"Very poor performance, Rangers were very poor," McCoist confessed. "I thought Kevin Clancy was very poor, it was a poor performance all round.
"Aberdeen probably should've and could've picked up the three points.
"Well, Kevin Clancy had a poor game, but in terms of officiating the game, his nephew Scott Brown had a particularly good game.
"Aberdeen should've had a penalty, I thought it was a penalty.
" Rangers scored an excellent, if not against the run of play but certainly it was an excellent goal.
"Second-half, Aberdeen stepped up. The sending off of Ryan Kent was an absolute joke."
Sutton interjected to tell McCoist that Kent had shown incredible naivety in allowing himself to be "played like a piccolo" by Brown.
And he agreed.
McCoist replied: "Chris, I sat in my living room and said the exact same thing. My boys were texting me saying it was a disgraceful decision - which it was.
"Wee Broony conned the referee brilliantly. The referee bought it, his uncle Kevin Clancy bought it.
"Kent showed incredible naivety, as you say. That was the word I used when the incident happened.
"How naive to give him the opportunity. That said, Aberdeen deserved at least a point, you've got to be honest."
