Alleged killer of 18yo north Brisbane woman to stay in jail after Maroochydore court hearing

A 19-year-old man will remain in custody over the alleged murder of his 18-year-old former partner after the woman's body was found in Sunshine Coast bushland on the weekend.

Aaron Daniel Mitchelson Huckel's matter was heard in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Monday morning.

The Kallangur man is charged with murder and misconduct with a corpse by interfering.

It will be alleged that Petrie Year 12 student Emily Nicole Thompson met Mr Huckel at a car park in the northern Brisbane suburb of Strathpine at about 4:30pm on Saturday.

Ms Thompson's family alerted police at 7:00pm when she failed to return home.

Her body was discovered about 3:00am on Sunday in nearby bushland.

At a weekend press conference, Moreton District Crime Group Detective Inspector Ben Fadian said officers found Mr Huckel at a service station in Nambour at about 8:00pm, where he was taken into custody.

He said the two had been in a relationship that had recently ended.

"The relationship could be described as an intimate relationship. The length of it is still under investigation," he said.

Tributes for teen

Four sets of floral tributes have been placed at a car park off Bells Pocket Road in Brisbane's north, where police believe the woman went prior to her death.

Carma Hamblry was among those who laid flowers.

Ms Hamblry said it was heartbreaking that another woman had lost her life.

"This young woman had a family and it's really sad for everybody involved," she said.

Doug Watson, principal of Pine Rivers State High where the woman attended school, said the community was "deeply shocked and saddened" by the death of one of their students.

"She was an enthusiastic, high-achieving and friendly student who will be greatly missed by all her friends and teachers," he said.

"Our thoughts and sincere sympathies go out to the family, caregivers, friends and loved ones during this difficult time."

Mr Watson said support and guidance counsellors were being provided to students and staff.

Loving parents devastated

Detective Inspector Fadian said three crime scenes had been established — the car park, the bushland and the service station.

Police are still investigating where the alleged murder occurred.

He says Ms Thompson's family is devastated.

"They are loving parents and they were concerned for their daughter," Detective Inspector Fadian said.

"It's a tragic event. The young lady is 18 years of age and she had her life ahead of her.

"This is a good, young lady, or young person, and this has happened to her."

Police are asking anyone who saw a white Ford Mustang or a blue Mazda3 near the Rob Akers Sports Reserve at Bells Pocket Road in Strathpine between 4:00pm and 6:00pm on Saturday to make contact.

Both cars have been taken for forensic examination.

A post-mortem examination is being conducted to determine Ms Thompson's cause of death.

The matter will next be heard at the Pine Rivers Magistrates Court later this month.
