Allan McGregor reveals dilemmas he weighed up before taking Rangers coach role

Allan McGregor has revealed the dilemmas he weighed up before accepting the role of goalkeeping coach back at Rangers.

The iconic former stopper, 44, was announced as lead goalkeeping coach at Ibrox last week in what was an emotional homecoming for the club hero.

Speaking to Rangers TV, he admitted he was "buzzing" to be back with the team having previously worked with Barry Ferguson's staff during his interim stint as manager last term.

But for McGregor it was important to consider everything that comes with coaching at a club the size of the Light Blues before he made the decision to return.

"I never thought about (coaching) when I was playing," he said. "The club always said to me in my last couple of years if I ever wanted to get into it they'd help me but I was more focused on being right for games.

"So in that respect I never really thought about it. A couple of years later when Barry phoned me I jumped at the chance. Because I knew it was only three months then.

"This one took a wee bit more thought because the process, the longer term thing how it would look. Me not having my badges and having to start them and what I could bring to that.

"And what it would look like on the club as well, that was really important for me. Jim said it wouldn't be a problem, so..."
