Allan McGregor on brink of Rangers extension as veteran keeper knocks back mega bucks Saudi deal

Allan McGregor is on the brink of signing a Rangers contract extension.

And Record Sport can exclusively reveal the veteran has knocked back a more lucrative contract from Saudi Arabia to continue his Ibrox love affair.

We understand the veteran goalkeeper is set to put pen to paper on a new deal.

McGregor and the club are expected to announce the news imminently after both parties held positive talks.

It will take the 40-year-old into a 16th year in the first team with the club over two spells.

McGregor’s contract expired this summer and after he was given a Scottish Cup Final cameo it looked like it could have been his farewell.

However, the veteran has decided he is ready for the challenge of another season as he looks to help Rangers win back the Scottish Premiership title.

McGregor played a key role in helping Rangers reach the Europa League Final as he made up for the disappointment of missing the UEFA Cup Final through injury in 2008.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst also has Jon McLaughlin and Robby McCrorie in his ranks with the squad due to return for pre-season on June 27.

McGregor’s contract extension sees him follow fellow veterans Steven Davis and Scott Arfield in committing to continue his Rangers stay.
