The general secretary of the RMT union, Mick Lynch, has vowed “a sustained campaign of industrial action which will shut down the railway system”. His members working for Network Rail and 13 train operators are to strike on 21, 23 and 25 June, with effects on the intervening days and 26 June.
The aim to “shut down the railway system” in a dispute over jobs, terms and pay has not materialised, with Network Rail and train companies planning to run trains on about half the rail network in Great Britain, at least between 7.30am and 6.30pm.
