The Met Office has put weather warnings in place as Storm Corrie, the second dangerous storm to hit the UK this weekend, looks set to bring severe gusts of wind across northern England, Scotland and Northern Ireland throughout the week.

Just after Storm Malik wreaked havoc, a monster storm of winds, rainfall and gales are expected to sweep across the country in the next 24 hours, with eastern Scotland and North East England expected to be the worst affected areas.

Chief meteorologist Dan Suri warned that because of back-to-back storms there could be updates to severe weather warnings, urging people to "keep an eye on the Met Office forecast".

Here are all the places Storm Corrie will affect and what to expect from it.

What are the places affected by Storm Corrie?

After Storm Malik, the unsettled weather continues with second dangerous storm Corrie (PA)

The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning for the east coast of Scotland and North East England. The warning covers central Scotland, Tayside & Fife, Grampian, south west Scotland and the Lothian Borders. North East England is also covered, including Newcastle and Northumberland.

Meanwhile, there is a yellow warning for wind in place for the rest of Scotland, Northern Ireland and parts of northern England.

The storm which is expected to batter the country with winds of 70-80mph, potentially even up to 90mph in exposed coastal locations and mountainous areas in the northern parts of Scotland.

The intense areas of low pressure which have been brewing over the weekend have moved eastwards and continued across the North Sea.

Scotland looks set to be the worst affected by Storm Corrie with highest rates of inland gusts expected over the northern half of Scotland, north of the Central Belt.

The unsettled weather due to the new storm follows just one day after Storm Malik and will remain into this week, with a yellow warning for strong winds in place on Tuesday February 1 as well.

Power cuts are expected to happen as gusts of wind sweep the country (Met Office)

The Met Office has warned that road, rail, air and ferry services are likely to be affected by the storm, leading to longer journey times and some cancellations. Roads and bridges may be closed causing further delays.

It’s also possible that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and/or large waves.

With thousands of homes already without power due to Storm Malik, forecasters have also warned that there's also a good chance of further power cuts and potential impact on other services like mobile phone coverage.
