All the Edinburgh roads closed or partially closed ahead of Queen's arrival

Several road closures have been added to the already long list by Edinburgh City Council as the Scottish capital prepares to welcome the Queen for the final time after her passing.

The Queen’s body is expected to arrive in Edinburgh at around 3:30pm following a long journey down from Balmoral in Aberdeenshire.

It is expected that the procession will enter the city via the Queensferry Crossing in the west.

From there, it will travel past Edinburgh Castle and down the full length of the Royal Mile where it will pass the Scottish Parliament before making its way to the royal residence at the Palace of Holyroodhouse.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon and opposition party leaders are expected to gather at the Parliament to observe the Queen’s coffin passing.

As a result of the procession, drivers in the capital have been urged not to travel by car if they wish to say their goodbyes.

Road closures are expected to remain in place tomorrow (Monday 12) where the Queen’s body will be transported from Holyroodhouse to St Giles Cathedral for a service at around 3:00pm.

Instead the local authority is advising that anyone wishing to enter the city centre do so by using one of the seven park and rides to bus or train into the capital.

The arrival of the coffin will mean that several road closures will be in order to ensure the security of the event.

“There might also be additional closures at short notice, please be prepared for significant disruption if you are travelling.

“If you are travelling to Edinburgh, consider using one of seven park and rides and get a bus or train into the city.”
