All Star Musicals viewers were feeling rather confused on Sunday evening as John Barrowman hosted the new ITV programme.
The 55-year-old TV presenter and actor opened the show by performing a song from much-loved musical Grease, before going on to introduce the first celebrity contestant.
All Star Musicals is Barrowman's first major TV job since he was dropped from the Dancing on Ice judging panel.
The former Doctor Who star was famously replaced by former Strictly Come Dancing star Oti Mabuse on the 2022 judging panel after just two years of being on the show.
ITV did not confirm the reason for Barrowman's departure, but the news was announced shortly after allegations of "inappropriate on-set behaviour" resurfaced at the beginning of 2021.
Therefore, some viewers were shocked to see Barrowman back on their television screens and fronting a different ITV show.
Taking to Twitter, one person asked: "How's john barrowman still doing this on itv but got sacked from dancing on ice #AllStarMusicals."
Another viewer echoed this and tweeted: "How has John Barrowman got this gig," while a third simply wrote: "Barrowman?" alongside an eye roll emoji.
Someone else added: "Why on earth is John Barrowman presenting this please? Utterly stupid decision, won’t be watching."
However, other viewers were delighted to see John again with one person posting: "@JohnBarrowman Lovely to see you on our screens, John. And that blue suit is fabulous! Welcome back, Mr Entertainment! #AllStarMusicals @ITV."
The episode ended with Barrowman announcing that Good Morning Britain weather presenter Alex Beresford had won the show after performing a song from hit musical Hamilton.
Speaking after the show, Alex was asked how it felt to win and he replied: "It felt absolutely amazing. It was surreal.
"We were all standing there on stage and waiting for them to call a name and when I heard Al.. I was like 'oh my God, it’s me' and it was just the best feeling in the world. I’ve never won anything like that before.
"After my performance when I was listening to the judge's comments, they were saying such lovely things and it just really touched me and my eyes welled up. I was holding my tears back- I didn't want to blub on national television!" he added.
