All Squad Building Challenge changes in EA Sports FC 27 explained

EA Sports FC 27 brings significant changes to Squad Building Challenges. With the new game, a faster, score-based Streamlined SBC system alongside other major QOL changes has been introduced instead of building full 11-man squads around chemistry and rating walls.

Quick summary

  • EA Sports FC 27 is overhauling Squad Building Challenges.
  • You now submit eligible items to reach a target score based on each item’s OVR and rarity.
  • Duplicates can be used multiple times, and partial progress is saved.
  • The changes are designed to tie into FC 27 ’s new FUT Gallery progression.

All Squad Building Challenge changes in EA Sports FC 27

Squad Building Challenges have been the puzzle at the heart of FUT for all these years. In FC 27, EA is splitting them into two buckets:

  • Streamlined SBCs : for most Player and Upgrade rewards
  • Traditional SBCs : reserved for more complex, puzzle-like SBCs

Streamlined SBCs

Instead of building an entire squad that hits specific chemistry, position, and overall rating targets, Streamlined SBCs work on a score-based submission system.

Each eligible player item in your club has a score value based on its overall rating and rarity, using the same scoring system as the new FUT Gallery. An SBC will show a target score. You pick any eligible items from your club and submit them, and each one adds its score to your progress bar.

That means you can complete the same SBC in multiple ways. With many lower-rated items, a few high-rated specials, or a mix of both. EA removes squad overall rating requirements for many of these challenges.

Some Streamlined SBCs might require a total score only. A simple requirement like “each submitted item must be 75+ rated” could be the only factor. Others may have no minimum OVR at all, only a total score target. This makes it much easier to use odd cards, duplicates, and bench fodder without needing perfect chemistry or position spreads.

Coming to duplicates and partial progress, there are two huge quality-of-life upgrades:

  • You can submit multiple versions of the same player toward the score (including duplicates)
  • Partial progress is saved

This means you don’t have to finish the SBC in one go. You may submit some items, save the progress, and come back later to complete it.

Traditional SBCs

Not every SBC, however, is becoming score-based. EA is keeping Traditional SBCs for puzzle-like Challenge SBCs and more complex, multi-requirement rewards where chemistry, positions, and squad construction are crucial.

The studio, which at the time of writing is now officially acquired by a Saudi PIF-led group after a $55 billion deal, also says it will adjust the balance between the two formats based on community feedback throughout the season.

How SBC changes tie into FUT Gallery and item scoring

The new SBC system is built to FC 27’s FUT Gallery, which tracks every player item that passes through your club and assigns each a score based on OVR and rarity.

The same item scoring used in Gallery Sets is used in Streamlined SBCs. Higher-rated and rarer items (Campaign, ICONs, Heroes, Holographic variants) contribute more points to both Gallery Sets and SBC progress. Even if you sell a player or use them in an SBC, they still count toward your Gallery level and Sets.

How FC 27 SBC changes compare to FC 26

FC 26 SBCs

In EA FC 26, almost all SBCs required building full squads (11+ items), with strict requirements around Chemistry, Positions, Squad overall rating, and sometimes league/nation/club constraints.

There was no partial progress, as you had to submit everything at once. Duplicates could be used, but building around them was often awkward.

FC 27 SBCs

No full squad needed for most Player or Upgrade SBCs. Requirements have been reduced down to a total score target, sometimes a simple minimum OVR rule (e.g., 75+), with duplicates allowed multiple times toward the score.

Saves partial progress, so you can complete over multiple sessions. Traditional SBCs will still exist for more complex challenges, preserving the puzzle element for players who enjoy it.

FAQ

What is the Streamlined SBC format in FC 27?

It’s a new system where you submit eligible items to reach a target score instead of building full squads with chemistry and rating rules.

Do I still need to build full squads for SBCs in FC 27?

Most Player and Upgrade SBCs no longer require full squads, though Traditional SBCs will remain for more complex Challenge SBCs.

Can I use duplicate players in FC 27 SBCs?

Yes, you can submit multiple copies of the same player toward your score total in Streamlined SBCs.

How is each player’s SBC score calculated?

Each item’s score is based on its overall rating and rarity using the same system as FUT Gallery.

Are SBCs easier or cheaper in FC 27?

They’re designed to be less time-consuming and more flexible, which can lower the effective cost, though exact coin values will depend on specific SBCs.

Can I still use old SBC strategies in FC 27?

Classic squad-building tactics matter less for Streamlined SBCs, but strategies around fodder value, duplicates, and partial progress will become more important.
