All-Ireland SFC Qualifier draw: Armagh to host Tyrone in tie of the round

The draw for the first round of the All-Ireland SFC Qualifiers has thrown up some blockbuster ties - none more so than the meeting of arch rivals Armagh and Tyrone.

The All-Ireland champions will travel to the Athletic Grounds next weekend in what will be a repeat of their infamous League meeting from February when five red cards were dished out at the end of the game.

Kieran McGeeney’s men won the round two tie in impressive style, 2-14 to 0-14, and comfortably retained their top flight status.

However, they bowed out of the provincial Championship following a seven-point loss to Donegal in Ballybofey.

Tyrone’s defence of their Ulster title ended with a shock 1-18 to 0-11 loss to Derry in Healy Park at the beginning of May.

The Red Hands now face the prospect of having to defeat the Orchard County at the Athletic Grounds to remain in the Championship or relinquish their grip on the Sam Maguire.

There is another mouth-watering clash in the first round as beaten All-Ireland finalists Mayo host fellow Division One side Monaghan in Castlebar.

The Farney lost out to Derry in the Ulster SFC semi-final while Mayo were beaten in the Connacht Championship by Galway.

Elsewhere, Clare will be hoping to bounce back from their penalty shoot-out loss to Limerick when they take on Meath in Ennis while Cork will have home advantage against Mickey Harte’s Louth.

The four games will be played on the weekend of June 4-5 with the CCCC set to confirm times and dates later this afternoon. The winners of the four round one Qualifiers will progress to the second round where they’ll meet one of the beaten provincial finalists.
