All areas of Merseyside record a further fall in Covid infections

Every local government area of the Liverpool City Region recorded a fall in weekly Covid infections.

According to the latest data from Public Health England, the Liverpool City Region had 12,740 covid infections in the seven days ending January 20 - that's 4,356 fewer infections than the previous week.

That meant the LCR's week-on-week percentage change figure fell by 26%.

The falls in infections in each of the areas of the city region are as follows: 27% in Knowsley; 32% in Liverpool; 15% in Halton; 26% in St Helens; 24% in Sefton; and 21% in Wirral.

It is the fifteenth day in a row that infections have fallen in these areas.

Just beyond the city region border, only Cheshire West and Chester had a tiny rise in infections - of just 1% in the week ending January 20.

West Lancashire and Warrington recorded decreases in infections in the week ending January 20. England overall also had a drop in positive Covid tests in the week ending January 20.

Liverpool

Liverpool's positive tests came to 3,564 cases in the week ending January 20, which is 1,657 fewer cases than the previous week.

This meant the week-on-week percentage change figure dropped by 32%.

The latest infection rate was 712.1 cases per 100,000 people.

Wirral

Wirral's positive tests came to 2,951 cases in the week ending January 20, which is 801 fewer cases than in the previous seven days.

This meant the week-on-week percentage change figure fell by 21%.

The latest infection rate was 909.9 cases per 100,000 people.

Halton

There were 1,345 positive tests over the last week - that's 242 fewer cases than in the previous week.

This means the week-on-week percentage change figure fell by 15% in Halton in the week ending January 20.

The latest infection rate is 1,036.5 cases per 100,000 people.

St Helens

There was a total of 1,512 cases in the week ending January 20, which is 535 fewer cases than in the previous week.

The latest infection rate in St Helens is 834.9 cases per 100,000 people and the week-on-week percentage change figure fell by 26%.

Knowsley

There was a total of 1,225 cases in the week ending January 20, which is 444 fewer cases than in the previous week.

The latest infection rate in Knowsley is 803.5 cases per 100,000 people and the week-on-week percentage change figure dropped by 27%.

Sefton

Sefton had a total of 2,143 cases in the week ending January 20, which is a 677 fewer cases than in the previous week.

The latest infection rate is 776.7 cases per 100,000 people and the number of cases fell by 24% week on week.

Liverpool City Region

There were 12,740 positive tests over in the week ending January 20, which is 4,356 fewer cases than in the previous week.

This means the week-on-week percentage change fell by 26%. The latest infection rate is 748.20 cases per 100,000 people.

Warrington

There were 1,934 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending January 20, which is 341 fewer cases than the previous week.

The week-on-week percentage figure dropped by 15%. There was an infection rate of 923.61 per 100,000 people.

West Lancs

West Lancashire recorded 1,028 coronavirus cases in the week ending January 20, which is 180 fewer cases than in the previous seven days.

This meant there was a week-on-week percentage figure dropped by 15%. The infection rate was 897.85 per 100,000 people.

Cheshire West and Chester

There were 3,612 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending January 20, which is 40 more cases than the previous week.

The latest infection rate is 1,050.54 cases per 100,000 people, and there was a week-on-week percentage rise of just 1% in cases.

England

In the week ending January 20, England recorded 558,529 coronavirus cases, which is 26,342 fewer cases than in the previous seven days.

There was a week-on-week percentage decrease of 5% in cases nationally, and there was an infection rate of 987.67 per 100,000 people.
