Alisson's response to Jurgen Klopp after he told him he wasn't playing in final says a lot

Alisson gave Caoimhin Kelleher his full support after Jurgen Klopp told him the Irish youngster would play in the Carabao Cup final.

The Brazilian has been the No 1 ever since he arrived from Roma in the summer of 2018.

Alisson has been integral to the Reds' recent success, providing a level of calm at the back.

But Klopp opted to stick with Kelleher on Sunday at Wembley despite the stakes being high with a trophy on the line.

Alisson's snub by no means isolated him from the group, in fact he highlighted the squad mentality as the 29-year-old showed full confidence in his teammate.

Kelleher would prove to be the shootout hero, scoring the 21st penalty of the match before Kepa Arrizabalaga blazed over.

Klopp revealed after to Bein Sports: "When we told Ali that Caoimhin will play, Ali said okay, that’s good, if we win it then we can put his head on the famous wall in the goalkeeper area at the AXA where all the keepers who won trophies with Liverpool are on.

“We can put him (Kelleher) on that as well. I hope the guy who is doing the painting is already on its way, because Caoimhin will be there as well.”

Liverpool created a mural recently to highlight the efforts of a position that can often get overlooked.

The likes of Ray Clemence, Elisha Scott, Bruce Grobbelaar and Pepe Reina have their places cemented in history at the club and now Kelleher will join the list.

Klopp added: “There’s Adrian for the Super Cup, Ali obviously and now Caoimhin is on it as well. I love it to bits."

The Wembley success gifts the German his first domestic cup success since taking charge back in 2015.

It also keeps Liverpool on course for the quadruple as they now aim to chase down Manchester City in the Premier League.

The Reds had not won the Carabao Cup since a shootout win over Cardiff City in 2012 and Kelleher was lost for words afterwards.

He said: "It’s hard to sum up at the minute. Loads of emotions obviously but I’m just delighted to get the win and it’s a class feeling to win it at Wembley with all of our fans. It’s special.

"Someone said to me afterwards, ‘You scored the winning penalty’ but I wasn’t really bothered about that and I was more bothered that I wanted to make a save!

"But, thank God, anyway I scored and we got the win."
