Alison Hammond raise concerns seconds into Wednesday's This Morning, as she called a brief halt to the live show to reveal she was nursing a rather painful injury.
With Holly Willoughby now on a summer break, with bookies slashing odds on her never returning to the ITV programme, Alison has taken over as one of the main hosts in her absence, along with her usual Friday presenting partner in crime, Dermot O'Leary. The pair at the helm of This Morning for an extended stint, days after ITV bosses shut down reports of them having an 'increasingly strained relationship' off camera, but just as many viewers call for them to be made the show's full time hosts.
There was an unexpected start to Alison and Dermot's third show in charge, when, after they greeted each other as cameras started rolling, Alison announced to Dermot that she was nursing an injury, asking him: "Did you notice how I could only slap you with that one? I've had an injury with my thumb."

As Dermot looked confused, Alison elaborated: ""I was doing a photoshoot – I won't tell you what it's for – and I had to stay in a position for three hours, believe it or not, and I've damaged my thumb. I don't think you can actually see it," before the camera showed an up-close image of her thumb.
Urging Dermot to proceed with caution, she then added: ""It's just really swollen, just be careful with me today, be gentle."
Plenty of This Morning fans have been flooding Alison's Instagram with pleas to have her and Dermot on the show full time, with one telling her: "Such a brilliant team! More of you two genuinely nice people needed in the week starting in Sept!!! Take note producers… we want Alison and Dermot FULL TIME!!" Echoing those sentiments, a second replied: "Love these guys together should be the main this morning presenters"
