Alison Hammond says she can't go live on ITV This Morning without Dermot O'Leary doing one thing

Alison Hammond has revealed how she 'can't go' live on This Morning without co-host Dermot O'Leary doing one thing before the cameras start rolling. Viewers are used to seeing the pair hosting the ITV daytime show on a Friday after taking on the main hosting gig at the start of 2021.

Alison, 48, and Dermot, 49, replaced Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes in the role as they joining the show's main hosting duo Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield. However, former Big Brother star Alison had already spent the best part of 20 years on the programme, often being sent out to play games with members of the public and interviewing some of Hollywood's biggest stars.

But former X Factor host Dermot was brought in after guest stints on the show to create the new This Morning duo alongside Holly and Phillip, who continue to host the show from Monday through to Thursday, except during the summer and Christmas breaks.

There has previously been rumours that the pair weren't gelling behind the scenes but have since gone on to disprove those claims. In June this year, a spokesman for This Morning were forced to confirm that the duo have become firm friends - and even socialise away from work together.

Alison has even previously shared how Dermot accompanied her to the doctors when she took her son during Dermot's planned visit to her Birmingham-based home. "So I was gonna cancel Dermot 'cause [her son] Aidan had a real sore throat," Alison said on a Christmas episode of Dish, a podcast hosted by Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett,

"And I just thought, you know what, I'll just take Aidan to the doctors, you know, Dermot can chill out in the house, whatever. Anyway, next thing I know, he was like, ‘I'm coming with you.’ I was like, ‘No, you really don't have to come with me,’ ‘No, I'm coming with you.’ Oh my god, it was hilarious. We got to the doctors, they were all like so starstruck by Dermot."

And now, Alison has opened up more about her partnership with Dermot and how it is down to him whether she appears on screen or not. "If Dermot doesn't sing to me before a show, then I can't go on," she said ahead of hosting the BAFTA Film Awards this Sunday (February 19).

She then added to Closer Magazine: "So I'm going to have to have him phone me and sing before I do the BAFTAs, otherwise it just won't feel right."

It was revealed in January that Alison will be hosting the annual awards show with Oscar-nominated actor Richard E Grant. She said: at the time: "I'm so excited to be hosting this year’s EE Bafta Film Awards with THE Richard E Grant. We’re going to have a lot of fun bringing the glitz and glam of backstage to everyone watching at home around the world.

"From hanging out with the stars to celebrating the biggest night for cinema, and joining the discussions with film fans, get ready for good vibes only."
