This Morning walked away with a top gong at the National Television Awards, Best Daytime Television Show, but their Friday presenter, Alison Hammond missed out on the best presenter award to Ant and Dec - however, she almost got up and collected the award in a moment she described as 'shameful' on this morning's instalment, October 14.
The Brummie star explained to co-host Dermot O'Leary that she misheard the award presenter saying Ant & Dec, thinking they said 'Alison.' Giggling their heads off after entering the show with a flurry of confetti and celebration, Alison said: "The funniest moment was, obviously I was up for an award, and I heard Ant and Dec being called, but I heard 'Alison'." Reliving the moment, Dermot - who at the time thought Alison was simply "taking the mick" - chimed: "Oh, don't! This is so embarrassing!"
"In my head, I heard 'Alison'," she continued. "He went 'Alison', so then I reached across to Dermot and I said, 'did they say Alison?' and Dermot went: 'No, they didn't say Alison'. It was so shameful." She added: "But what a great night! We are truly, truly, the whole team, they all work incredibly hard. We are so grateful for this award.”

And while the much-loved Brummie author didn't come up top for the best presenter award in the end, later in the show she revealed that she too, voted for Ant and Dec, who have taken home the gong 21 times. Known for her great sense of fun while on screen, Alison also gave a genuine thanks to fans for voting and noted that it was an achievement to get a 'seat at the table' in being nominated for best presenter.
"The weirdest thing is, I actually voted for Ant and Dec because I thought it would be a bit weird voting for myself," she said on the show.
After contributor Gyles Brandret said that despite the loss,Alison "won our hearts... the real winner was you", Alison sang Ant and Dec's praises. She said: "They're legends, of course they're going to win. But, do you know what, just having a seat at that table, so many presenters have never been able to get into that nomination. I just felt so, I felt like a little bit of a fraud, but I'm ... It was just a wonderful moment to be there. I saw the bigger picture of what that actually meant. Me being in that category. So it was incredible. It really was."
Taking to Instagram soon after the awards show, Alison posted a picture of the presenting duo posing together on the red carpet, congratulating This Morning and everyone who voted for her, personally, and the show.
She wrote: "Congratulations @thismorning another NTA Wow Wow Wow !! thank you to each and everyone of you who voted !
