Ali Abdelaziz wants Justin Gaethje to welcome Conor McGregor back to the octagon, but doubts it will happen.
Gaethje (23-4 MMA, 6-4 UFC) and McGregor (22-6 MMA, 10-4 UFC) have exchanged plenty of words and have long been on a collision course, but have yet to fight.
McGregor, who broke his leg in a TKO loss to Dustin Poirier in July 2021, isn’t currently in the drug testing pool with the UFC’s U.S. Anti-Doping Agency partner and would need to be in the program for at least six months before he’s eligible to compete. Abdelaziz thinks the Irish star is using performance-enhancing drugs while outside the testing pool and will want no piece of Gaethje.
“I would like to see Justin Gaethje destroy Conor McGregor and put him in a wheelchair,” Abdelaziz said in an interview with The Schmo. “I would love to see that. … It doesn’t matter – any weight. He can take all the steroids he wants. He can take all the juice – EPO, everything. Whatever he wants to take, he can take. I would like to see this fight, but we know he doesn’t like tough fights anymore. He wants easy fights. He’s probably not going to fight Justin Gaethje.”
Gaethje also has recently been sidelined after nose surgery. The former UFC interim lightweight champion and ex-WSOF champ revealed he was in a bicycle accident 18 days before he challenged Charles Oliveira for the title in May, and has been taking some time off to heal his body since the fight. Although McGregor always has been a desired opponent for him, Gaethje mentioned Rafael Fiziev and Oliveira as possible comeback fights.
