Alfredo Morelos' Rangers future remains up in the air after Michael Beale said he’d been assured the striker hasn’t signed for Sevilla.
The Ibrox boss has shelved talks with the Colombian until the end of the season. But Hotline callers reckon Morelos’ is at the end of his shelf life in Govan after six years. Frank McFerran, Carrickfergus, said: “As a Rangers fan I would let Morelos go. He’s becoming a liability and a bore with his constant moaning. A great player on his day but these days are becoming less and less.” Eddie Easson, Ballingry, said: “Waiting for Morelos? Ask the Rangers support would they trust El Buffalo? No chance. He will go into talks with Beale knowing full well he's holding the gun. At the end of the season, like Ryan Kent, they have no financial worth to Rangers.”
Across the city and it’s Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou who is regularly linked with a move out of town. With Patrick Vieira the latest management casualty in the Premier League after being sacked by Crystal Palace, Bill Lockerbie, Northampton, claimed: “No doubt the rumour mill will go into full overdrive over Ange’s imminent departure to Crystal Palace.
"The reality is, the only Palace worthy of Big Ange is the one that presents him with a knighthood for services to Scottish football. Desperate times call for desperate measures, maybe Beale is the answer.”
But John Allardyce, Edinburgh, said: “The Japan manager didn't pick two so-called Celtic stars. As he said, politely, the Scottish league is dross with no competition against Celtic. Big Ange will be like Brendan Rodgers and move on as he’s not getting tested in the worst league in Europe.”
Sticking with Celtic and Tam Williamson, Lanarkshire, took issue with retired referee Steve Conroy’s claim that Reo Hatate took a dive against Hearts and should be banned for the Scottish Cup semi final. Tam said: “For a yesterday's man like him to suggest that Hatate should miss the semi final for ‘diving’ suggests to me that he sits on his brains. If Conroy is thinking straight then his suggestion would mean that half of the Rangers team would be missing from the semi final also.”
Meanwhile, David Bryce, Troon, said: “Manchester City’s 7-0 win against Leipzig is a wake-up call for all Celtic supporters. Leipzig beat us comfortably, twice. Whilst winning the league and entering the Champions League is great, we have to realise that we are also rans at that level now. We simply don’t have the players to compete.”
Even more bleak on the subject of European football was David Wallace, Neilston, who dismissed the fact Scotland had a club in a Euro final less than a year ago and said: “Why do Scottish managers want in to European tournaments? They’re all out after a couple of qualifying rounds every year. Some don’t even make it into Europe being knocked out after playing teams from Wales and Ireland.”
Finally, and as Falkirk and Inverness look forward to their big day out at Hampden in the Scottish Cup semi final, John Scott, Grassmoor, hit back at a caller who claimed “glory hunters” from both sides will “embarrass” Scottish football.
John said: “It's a bit rich of Hotline caller Ian Flett to use the term glory hunters towards Inverness and Falkirk fans. Myself and a few hundred other Hibs fans can attest to gates well below 20,000 at Ibrox and Parkhead. Those massive new stands at Ibrox were half empty up until huge amounts of money were handed to Graeme Souness to build a team able to attract fans into those empty seats.
"Then Fergus McCann arrived to pull Celtic from the abyss. He began the rebuild of the stadium and provided a team to challenge Rangers. A stadium which now attracts 60,000 to league games with the overwhelming majority having no experience of the old Parkhead. Glory hunting by any definition.”
