Alfredo Morelos handed 'reliable' Rangers tag as Ally McCoist hails Michael Beale improvement factor

Rangers can rely on Alfredo Morelos for Sunday's Viaplay Cup final but he still needs to improve his fitness.

That is the view of Ibrox hero Ally McCoist who admits under Michael Beale's regime that the Colombian has improved again. It was a turbulent start to the season for Morelos when he was first left out of Gio Van Bronckhorst's squad to PSV for crucial Champions League qualifiers owing to fitness and 'attitude' issues. The 26-year-old, however, has been a number-once choice since Beale's arrival.

Despite having just nine goals in 33 appearances this season, Morelos will likely be one of the first names on the Rangers team-sheet for Sunday's blockbuster final against Celtic. The Colombian will be looking to forget his performance in the League Cup final in 2019 that saw him miss a penalty and a glut of chances.

But McCoist insists that while he is not razor-sharp with his fitness he can still be relied upon for the big game. He told Grosvenor Sport: "I think it’s going to be a very open game. Anything can happen in the Old Firm, especially at Hampden.

"Alfredo Morelos has impressed me since Michael Beale has come into the fold, although I still think he could improve his fitness. I also think Rangers can rely on him more now."
