Alexis Mac Allister posts emotional Brighton message as Liverpool move 'edges closer'

Liverpool target Alexis Mac Allister has sent a message to the Brighton & Hove Albion supporters expressing his pride at representing the club.

The Seagulls reached new historic heights under Roberto De Zerbi as they qualified for the Europa League finishing sixth. The Argentine was one of the shining lights at the AMEX Stadium with their progression up the Premier League table continuing.

But now Liverpool have earmarked the midfielder as one of their targets for this summer. Aston Villa marked the final farewells at Anfield for four of the Reds players - three of which made up Jurgen Klopp's midfield targets. The transfer window has yet to open but speculation surrounding Mac Allister and a move to Anfield has ramped up.

Mac Allister was an integral member of the Italian's squad and scored a stoppage-time penalty for the Seagulls in their last-gasp win over Manchester United at the business end of the season.

On Thursday, he recapped a remarkable and memorable year from a personal and club standpoint. He posted on Instagram: "Review of this historic season!

"It was an honour to represent Brighton & Hove Albion FC in a World Cup but to become the first ever World Cup winner for this club it will be unforgettable (hopefully you will have more), as it will be your welcome after it.

"3 years and a half ago, we were fighting for relegation and today, after so much sacrifice, suffering and work, this group will be in the history of this club for becoming the first time this club will play Europe League.

"We achieved it all together and that’s why we have to feel very proud. VAMOOOOOS."

The curtain came down on the South Coast sides season at Villa Park against Unai Emery's side and the 24-year-old left the pitch in tears in what appeared to be a final hurrah. That view has been confirmed by De Zerbi too.

"Yes, I think it can be the last game for Alexis and Moises Caicedo," admitted the Italian tactician last week.

"I am really sorry because they are two great people and two great players but the policy of Brighton is like this. It is right that they can leave, they can play at higher level.”

Rumours this morning suggested Liverpool have 'activated' the Mac Allister deal by meeting his release clause with completion now edging closer. Football Insider claim a fee of between £55-60million will be paid and the player will be on more than £150,000 per week at Anfield.
