Alexander Isak injury: Eddie Howe provides update ahead of Newcastle's clash with Brighton

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has provided a positive update in regards to star striker Alexander Isak.

The Sweden international has missed Newcastle’s last three games due to a broke toe but the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) favourite could return for the club’s clash with Brighton on Saturday.

Howe, who confirmed he had not been contacted by the Football Association (FA) before they appointed Thomas Tuchel as the new England manager, revealed the Sweden international had been in training this week.

“Alex has trained and trained well, he trained at the start of this week and looked good,” he confirmed on Friday.

“He will be in contention for the weekend."

Fellow forward Callum Wilson is also closing in on a return but will not be rushed back into action, given he is yet to feature this season.

Kieran Trippier is also facing a spell on the sidelines due to a hamstring injury, while all of Lewis Miley, Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles are long-term absentees.
