Alex Saab, the Colombian businessman who became one of Nicolás Maduro's most important financial operatives, pleaded guilty Tuesday in a Miami federal court to one count of money laundering and agreed to forfeit $195 million in illicit proceeds.
The plea agreement marks a dramatic reversal for Saab, who pleaded not guilty in July. It also requires the former Venezuelan industry minister to cooperate with ongoing federal investigations, including cases involving four unnamed co-defendants.
