Alex James takes 'big chunk' out of his finger in bloody Sunday Brunch segment

Alex James was forced to step away from the kitchen during the latest episode of Channel 4's Sunday Brunch after cutting his finger quite badly.

The former bassist of band Blur joined hosts Tim Lovejoy and Simon Rimmer in the studio to cook up some steak with a topping of blue cheese, but he suffered an unfortunate accident.

Less than an hour into the programme, Alex, 53, could be seen using only his right hand as a finger on his left hand was covered in blood.

As he chatted away in the kitchen, Simon was seen picking up a block of blue cheese and said: "I'll go round there coz you've got a little bit of blood on your board," as Alex laughed.

Sunday Brunch viewers were shocked as to why Alex wasn't tending to his injury but instead remained in the kitchen with his bloody hand hovering over the kitchen counter and cooking utensils.

Taking to Twitter, one person wrote: "Jesus Christ can someone give Alex James a dressing and some hand wash? Cringing here #SundayBrunch."

Another tweeted: "Get that bumbling blood covered oaf Alex James off - putting me right off with his bloody hand #SundayBrunch."

Someone else posted: "Alex James cutting his finger causing absolute havoc on #sundaybrunch has actually lived the show up (sic)."

A fourth person joked: "#SundayBrunch Alex James provided his own ketchup."

And a fifth added: "Howling with laughter watching Sunday Brunch. Got to be the worst show I’ve ever watched Alex James touching his nose whilst food handling, chopping an apple like he’s going to cut himself. Then cuts his finger."

At one point, Simon had to say to Alex: "Can we just grab you off to get a plaster," as Alex was ushered off camera to get bandaged up.

Sunday Brunch airs every weekend at 9.30am on Channel 4.
