Manchester United legend Alex Ferguson will be stepping down from his role as club ambassador at the conclusion of the current season, as confirmed by a reliable source. The decision, although not yet officially announced, is said to be amicable, with Ferguson, who will turn 83 in December, always being welcomed at Old Trafford.

Ferguson, widely regarded as one of the greatest managers in soccer history, enjoyed immense success during his tenure at Manchester United. He secured an impressive 13 Premier League titles and a total of 28 major trophies, making him the most successful manager in the club's history.

Since retiring in 2013 after leading United to their last league title, Ferguson has served as a club ambassador. His departure coincides with a period of significant change at the club following the recent partial buyout by British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe in February.

United has undergone a substantial restructuring process post-Ratcliffe's investment of $1.3 billion for a 27.7% stake, which included cost-saving measures such as staff redundancies and reported losses of 113.2 million pounds ($148 million) in the latest financial accounts.

Ferguson's arrival at United in 1986 marked a turning point for the club, which had lost its dominance in English soccer. He ended the club's 26-year wait for a league title in 1993 and continued to dominate the Premier League era until his retirement, culminating in a league title win with an 11-point lead over Manchester City.

His illustrious career also saw him clinch two Champions League titles and a historic treble in 1999, securing victories in the Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup in a single season.

Despite United's on-field struggles in recent years, Ferguson has remained a loyal supporter, attending matches both home and away. With Ratcliffe now overseeing the club's soccer operations, United has appointed a new CEO, Omar Berrada, and sporting director, Dan Ashworth, while key figures from Ratcliffe's Ineos Sport have joined the board.

As Ferguson prepares to conclude his ambassadorship, his legacy at Manchester United remains indelible, and his contributions to the club's rich history will always be cherished.
