Alex Eala demolished Naomi Osaka's comeback bid in Washington on Saturday, beating the four-time Grand Slam champion 6-4, 6-2 to become the first Filipino to reach a WTA 500 final and move within one win of a historic first tour title for the Philippines.

The 21-year-old began the season outside the world's top 50 and still searching for a breakthrough at tour level. Over the past two months she has rewritten that narrative.
