LOS ANGELES — The Chicago Blackhawks upset the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday night, getting the lone shootout goal from Alex DeBrincat for a 4-3 win at Crypto.com Arena.
With 28 seconds left in overtime, the Kings were called for too many men on the ice, but it wasn’t enough to get off more than DeBrincat’s shot, which was blocked.
Collin Delia, making just his second start of the season, didn’t have the opportunity to show any rust facing 46 shots and making 43 saves through overtime.
Still, he was at mercy of Trevor Moore’s breakaway on the first goal allowed, and the second, by Phillip Danault, came off a rebound.
The Hawks grabbed a lead in the first period on Patrick Kane’s 21st goal of the season. Alex DeBrincat took a centering pass from Erik Gustaffson and whipped a pass that bounced off the end boards to Kane.
Kane poked the puck behind Jonathan Quick after the Kings goalie shifted to defend DeBrincat.
Moore tied it in the second period on a short-handed goal, but the Hawks regained the lead on a DeBrincat goal set up by Dylan Strome’s pass from below the goal line. Kane also assisted.
The Hawks were called for having too many men on the ice, and it cost them late in the second period. Danault capitalized with a power-play goal.
But 1 minute, 19 seconds later, Sam Lafferty took a feed from Taylor Raddysh and backhanded in his fourth goal of the season.
However, Danault scored his second goal of the game and matched Kane at 21 on the season. It also gave Sean Durzi his third assist of the night.
Quick survived a furious Hawks scramble with about a minute left in regulation.
