Alex Cooper & Husband Matt Kaplan Skip All-Hands Company Meeting Addressing Bombshell Complaints

Alex Cooper

Alongside her alleged feud with Alix Earle, Alex Cooper is back in the headlines over allegations regarding the workplace environment and treatment of staff at Trending, the parent company that owns the Unwell Network.

Unfortunately, it appears that Cooper is being dragged into another controversy, this time regarding the alleged treatment of staff at Trending and the Unwell Network — which houses podcasts, including Call Her Daddy — and its high turnover rate.

In 2023, Cooper launched the Unwell Network, which signs on iconic podcasts, talent and creates media geared towards Gen Z. The shows under Unwell’s domain include Call Her Daddy, The Burnouts, Reality Recap, and so much more.

Alongside the Gen Z-focused media company, Cooper and her husband Matt Kaplan co-founded Trending, which houses Unwell alongside their other businesses.

Trending has produced over 50 films and TV shows, including the To All The Boys and XO, Kitty franchises.

According to a scathing Bloomberg report, staff members at the Unwell Network have threatened to quit during film shoots and on live tours due to Kaplan’s behaviour.

Per the report, Kaplan has been accused of “frequently” yelling and berating staff. It also cites an incident that took place during Trending’s launch of its YouTube program, the Unwell Winter Games, where an influencer left the show unexpectedly and was replaced “at the last minute by a surprise member” from the production team.

According to TMZ, the last-minute ditch was due to “logistical problems” in the lead-up to the launch.

Furthermore, the report also alleged that Kaplan had “threatened” staff from progressing their careers in Hollywood and berated them during another point of filming, which reduced a “long-experienced crew member” to tears.

Employees filed complaints through the Network’s formal channels, demanding that they would quit if Kaplan’s behaviour didn’t improve.

Slivers of internal tension within Unwell also surfaced in the 2025 Hulu documentary In Call Her Alex, which followed Cooper’s first live tour. At one point in the film, a production manager threatened to quit.

In a following scene, Kaplan claims it was due to the demanding work schedule, but a source who was close to production claimed the manager’s actions were due to the entrepreneur’s alleged volatile behaviour towards staff members.

In the last year, several high-level executives left the Network, with Bloomberg noting that the head of brand marketing, the head of the network and the chief growth officer were amongst those who’d quit.

The company has not commented on the allegations made in the report. However, it’s been reported that one day after the story went viral, the Unwell Network held an all-hands company meeting, which Cooper and Kaplan allegedly skipped.

Bloomberg reports the company held a meeting on Tuesday, April 21, to discuss Unwell’s show launches, staff retention and ongoing complaints about Kaplan’s behaviour. The session was led by chief marketing officer T.J. Marchetti, where employees were reportedly briefed on the company’s expanding leadership team and plans for further growth.

The outlet also reported that Marchetti addressed recent staff departures, while claiming Unwell’s turnover rate remains lower than that of comparable startups.

The scathing allegations come shortly after Cooper and Earle took over headlines due to an alleged feud that had been simmering for years.

You see, speculation of a rift began when Earle — who hosted the Hot Mess podcast, which was produced under the Unwell Network — left the company in early 2025. In a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal, Earle explained that her departure from the network was because “behind the scenes, [it was] a little bit of a hot mess”.

Almost a month later, Cooper responded to Earle via a heated TikTok, accusing her fellow podcaster of creating “fake drama”.

“I know what happened, and so do you, so talk — unless the fake narrative that you’re creating happens to be way more interesting than the truth… Unless you actually have something to say, I’m out. This is over,” Cooper said.

Earle then fired back with a quick, “Okay on it!!!”

She has yet to clap back formally. However, Earle has posted a TikTok dancing to SAYGRACE‘s “You Don’t Own Me” and onlookers reckon something is brewing regarding this ‘alleged’ feud.
