Alex Consani walked the runway at Gucci's spring 2027 show in Milan on Friday, wearing a cut-out black bodycon dress and chewing gum as she moved through creative director Demna's second ready-to-wear collection for the house. The moment, captured by the Associated Press, became one of the standout images from a show that reimagined the runway itself as a Gucci boutique, with models entering as though walking in off the street and pausing at mirrors, jewelry cabinets and clothing rails along the way.
Titled "The Store Show," the collection marked Demna's sophomore runway outing for Gucci since his February debut. Consani's gum-chewing walk fit squarely into its arc. Where his first collection leaned hard into overt, body-conscious sexuality, this season traced a single wardrobe from country-club polish to nightclub excess. Consani's cut-out dress arrived toward the end of that unraveling, part of a run of tight leather minidresses and thigh-skimming hemlines that closed out a more restrained, equestrian-inflected opening.

The show's front row underscored how much cultural weight Gucci is putting behind Demna's second season. Nicki Minaj arrived in an oversized white fur coat, while tennis players Jannik Sinner and Aryna Sabalenka sat near former Vogue editor Anna Wintour. Model Romeo Beckham and Gucci ambassador Shawn Mendes also attended, alongside British model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Candice Swanepoel, both of whom walked in the show.
Consani's appearance continues a pattern that has defined her relationship with the house since Demna took over. She has walked or fronted nearly every collection he has shown for Gucci so far, from his February runway debut, where she appeared in a gold look alongside Kate Moss and Emily Ratajkowski, to his Resort 2027 presentation staged in Times Square in May. Earlier this month, she wore a feathered custom Gucci gown to the Kering Foundation's Caring for Women Dinner during New York Fashion Week. Across those appearances, Consani has become one of the most recognizable faces of Demna's Gucci era, a status reinforced by her turn this year as the first transgender co-chair of the Met Gala, where she also wore a custom Gucci gown designed by him.

Friday's collection leaned heavily on 1980s power dressing, with broad shoulders, chunky belts stacked two and three at a time, and pencil skirts running throughout the womenswear. Demna paired that silhouette with equestrian references that have become a recurring signature under his direction, including jodhpurs and riding boots styled with structured jackets. As the show progressed, those polished looks gave way to glossy leather, tartan and sheer fabrics, a shift that made Consani's late-show cut-out dress read as a deliberate release point in the collection's arc.
Writing on Instagram ahead of the show, Demna said Gucci was about "luxury that wants to be seen," a description that tracked closely with how the collection moved from restraint to excess over the course of the runway. For Consani, whose runway presence has increasingly become tied to that tension between propriety and spectacle, Friday's look extended a partnership that has run through nearly every major Gucci moment since Demna arrived at the house.
