Alex Cochrane pelted with CHIPS as Hearts star targeted by fans during Hibs clash

Hearts star Alex Cochrane was pelted with missiles during the Edinburgh Derby against Hibs – including a portion of chips. Objects were thrown in the direction of the 22-year-old left-back from the home end during Sunday's clash at Easter Road.

Cochrane had stepped towards the touchline to take a throw in but was forced to retreat after being targeted by fans. And in amongst the objects was chips raining down from the stand and what appeared to be a lighter. Referee John Beaton stopped the game briefly as the former Brighton youngster clutched the back of his head and neck. Sky Sports co-commentator condemned the incident and said: "I hope it's just chips and there's no coins or lighters."

He also claimed a "bottle" was thrown onto the pitch after Lawrence Shankland gave Robbie Neilson 's side the lead before half-time. The striker latched on to a delightful Barrie McKay pass and poked the ball under the advancing Marshall. But there were claims of a foul as replays showed the Scotland international striker may have handled the ball as he bore down on the Hibs goal.

It's the first derby clash of the season between the city rivals as Neilson goes head-to-head with his former Hearts team-mate Lee Johnson. And the fixture was given an extra edge with the return of Hibs hero Martin Boyle. He agreed a transfer back from Al-Faisaly on Saturday and was registered just in time to make the bench for the Hibees.
