Alex Albon successfully ropes Williams team into dyeing hair red ahead of F1 Spanish Grand Prix

The Williams Formula One team set up a pop-up barbershop in the Barcelona paddock ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix to complete a bet made with driver Alex Albon.

After successfully finishing in a points position in Miami a fortnight ago, his second such finish of the season, the Thai-British racer thanked his “lucky” red hair having dyed it before the trip to the States.

Albon convinced the Williams crew that they would have to follow him in donning the new do in Catalunya this weekend, were he to seal a top-ten finish in Miami - and he came ninth.

On Thursday, ‘Albonos’ became a reality as team staff and figures from around the F1 paddock dropped by to receive their treatment.

Among the happy customers were Williams boss Jost Capito and Sky Sports commentator David Croft, with the children’s Iceman Charity in Thailand benefiting from the antics.

This weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix will see Albon sit out first practice while Formula E racer Nyck de Vries runs the Williams on Friday morning.

“It’s a good track, and one that every driver has done countless laps around, more so than any other circuit,” said the 26-year-old.

“That familiarity will work in my favour this weekend and help me get up to speed more quickly after sitting out FP1 whilst Nyck is in the car. We’re hungry for more points after Miami, so that’s what we’ll continue to push for.”
