Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and new judge Bruno Tonioli were not impressed with one act's choice of skill as Britain's Got Talent returned for a brand new series on Saturday.
The judges welcomed Mica from Finland to the stage, who was wearing a fluorescent pink three-piece suit and a recorder to match.
After spotting the instrument, Alesha Dixon joked: "We love a recorder, don't we, Si?" Simon Cowell looked unconvinced as he replied: "Nobody likes a recorder."
The contestant told the judges his dream was to perform in Las Vegas before asking if the stage was ready for his performance.
After Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly confirmed it was, Mica inserted the recorder into his left nostril before playing a tune on the instrument.
Bruno Tonioli cried out: "Oh no,' while Amanda Holden added: "I knew he was going to shove it in an orifice."
Alesha added: "How can he disrespect it like that?"
The contestant played several chart hits with his nose before being buzzed off stage by all four judges.
Britain's Got Talent viewers were divided over Mica's unique performance as one fan tweeted: "Someone playing the recorder with their nose… IS TALENT. #BGT2023 #BGT," while another wrote: "The guy with the recorder stuck up his nose is the most talented act so far tonight and you can't convince me otherwise #BGT #BritainsGotTalent #BGT2023."
"There can’t be anything that sums Britain up more than a bloke playing Sweet Caroline on a recorder shoved up his nose #BGT," someone else said.
However, one frustrated viewer remarked: "@BGT why give people TV time? The recorder and darth Vader as an opener after all these years, really! Show some decent acts please switching to BBC."
"I felt so sure this year would be different. Blinking Star Wars character, some guy playing a recorder via his nose and now the inevitable community choir. Bring back Susan Boyle and Paul Potts #BGT," another said and a third agreed: "How is playing the recorder through your nose a talent?! #BGT."
