Alejandro Garnacho ruled out for upcoming Manchester United games as winger confirms injury setback

Manchester United will be without Alejandro Garnacho for potentially several weeks after the winger confirmed the diagnosis of his ankle injury.

The club revealed on Tuesday that they were awaiting the results of tests on the knock the 18-year-old picked up against Southampton, although Erik ten Hag had suggested the injury was “not too bad”.

The player himself has now announced his setback with an emotional post on social media.

“It is difficult to put into words how I’m feeling right now,” he wrote.

“Unfortunately I will not be able to help my team and team-mates in the upcoming games in what is a very important part of the season for us at Manchester United.”

Garnacho will miss the Europa League trip to Real Betis on Thursday as well as the FA Cup quarter-final against Fulham. He has also been ruled out of Argentina’s upcoming internationals against Panama and Curacao.

It is unknown if he will be fit to return for United after the international break, when they face a crunch trip to Newcastle on April 2.

He continued: “I am disappointed to also miss the opportunity to be with my team mates of the Argentinian National Team in what would have been a great and proud moment for me and my family.

“This is part of football and our profession, however, I am already focused in my recovery. God has taught me to never give up and I will make sure I am back stronger than ever!”
