Alejandro Garnacho gives two reasons his first Man United season has been 'special'

Alejandro Garnacho has insisted he will continue to work hard after signing a new deal with Manchester United amid his impressive breakthrough campaign.

Despite missing the last seven weeks with an ankle injury, the Argentine ace has still enjoyed a productive campaign under Erik ten Hag this term. Garnacho has registered four goals and five assists in 29 appearances for United's first-team, while also recording two goal contributions in his two EFL Trophy matches this campaign.

The 18-year-old - who signed a new contract until 2028 - has been absent since coming off injured in the goalless draw with Southampton in February. However, he made a return to team training at Carrington on Friday and he prepares to make his comeback for the Reds.

The winger also says that his first goals in a United shirt and winning the League Cup have made his first campaign with the first-team 'special'.

Discussing his breakthrough season with club media, Garnacho said: "It's been a positive season for me. Scoring my first goals, helping the team on with my first trophy. It's been a special year but it's just the start. We have to keep working, we have more work to do."

The attacking star, who made his debut exactly 12 months prior to signing his new contract on Friday, was keen to express his delight at extending his spell with United. He also sent a message to the Reds fans for their consistent support and motivation.

He added: "It's a great day for me and my family. And I have worked a lot for this moment. I want to say thank you to the manager first because he gave me the opportunity. And of course, my family, all Academy coaches, and everyone [who has] helped me so much. I wouldn't be here signing this new contract without their support.

"I want to say thank you to all the Manchester United fans for this incredible support," Garnacho continued. "When I hear them saying my name, it means a lot to me. And I want to tell them that I'm giving 100 per cent every day to the team, and to make the fans happy."

The teenager could potentially play a part for the Reds in their Premier League clash with Aston Villa at Old Trafford on Sunday.
