Alejandro Garnacho among teammates to send Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez support

Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez has received well wishes from teammates across the globe as he begins his recuperation from injury.

Martinez went down in pain during the closing stages of last week's 2-2 draw with Sevilla. Fellow Argentinians Marcos Acuna and Gonzalo Montiel carried him off the pitch afterwards.

Later, Erik ten Hag announced the 25-year-old had fractured his metatarsal and he would be sidelined for the remainder of the season. Taking to Instagram, Martinez wrote: "Not the way I imagined what's been a very special season would end, but sometimes we face obstacles along the way that we have to overcome to make us stronger and we learn from them.

"I know that I'll be back very soon to go for more. In the meantime, I'll continue to support all my teammates to achieve our objectives.

"The number of messages and support I've received has been amazing, they're giving me strength and encouragement at this moment. Many, many thanks to you all from the bottom of my heart."

The Argentine provided a further update on his condition on Monday. "Everything went really well, thanks to God," he posted. "Many thanks for all of your messages. Now focusing on the recovery."

United's centre-back has received an outpouring of appreciation and support from fans but also from teammates. Across the two posts, some of the players sending him well wishes included former Reds winger Angel Di Maria who responded: "Come on buddy. Stay strong."

Paulo Dybala sent three love heart emojis while Leo Paredes replied: "Stay strong friend you're going to come back better than before. I love you so much."

Alejandro Garnacho sent a further love heart while captain Harry Maguire posted: "Amazing season mate. You’ll be back."

Acuna wrote: "You're gonna come back much stronger bro," while David de Gea added: "Always together."
